The Face of A Conqueror

Kechi Okwuchi, one of two survivors of a 2005 plane crash and a finalist on America Got Talent, did not win the competition but is more than a winner – a conqueror in every sense of the word.

After being selected to compete in Season 12 competition, Kechi has brought the judges and audience either to tears or to their feet, especially the ornery Simon Cowell.  There has been no middle ground of indifference to her pitch-perfect performances.

Rendering selections from “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran to her final selection “Conqueror” by Estelle, which summarizes exactly who she is.

Okwuchi has not let the tragic plane crash, her injuries or 100+ surgeries to date, define her.  Standing flat-footed she amazed us with her passionate vocals, that made us look pass her scarred body as she connected with our soul.

At one point, Howie Mandel said “All I wanna do is hug you and I wanna hold you” that surprising statement from a celebrity that is known for his fear of touching other people.

Prior to the finale, Okwuchi said on Instagram:  “There are a lot of singers and a lot of us know how to sing. I am so grateful to get this far but I feel like if I win it might be a little unfair because I don’t want people to vote for me based on my story and how much they like me and feel they are inspired by me. The main part of the show is the talent.”  She went on to say, “God’s plans are not our plans and he can see further than we can so I don’t want to go and say something that might counter what he has planned.  Let’s just say what will happen will happen”.

And so it did, Okwuchi did not win the competition but her faith in God and His plans for her life she continues to be pitch-perfect in His will.   Performing in a Christmas celebration in her hometown of Houston, Texas recently and engagements booked well into next year.

Ms. Okwuchi is a Testament to the indomitable spirit of God which is capable of propelling us far beyond our abilities.

Most of us may never experience the level of suffering Kechi is enduring but we will all experience suffering.  Those things that happen that may scar our bodies, minds, souls, and spirits; but just like Kechi, we can choose to put on the spirit of Christ and trust God’s plan for our life and be more than a Conqueror.

2  Cor. 2:14     God always causes us to Triumph [win] in Christ Jesus
